Cat Years to Human Years Calculator

A 1-year-old cat is about 15 in human years and a 2-year-old about 24; after that, each cat year adds about 4 human years. That's the conversion International Cat Care uses, and this calculator also tells you your cat's life stage.

Use decimals for months, e.g. 0.25 = 3 months.

How cat years convert

International Cat Care equates the first two years of a cat's life with 24 human years, and every year after that with 4 human years [1]. So a 3-year-old cat is about 28, a 10-year-old about 56 and a 15-year-old about 76.

Life stages

  • Kitten: 0–6 months
  • Junior: 7 months–2 years
  • Adult: 3–6 years
  • Mature: 7–10 years
  • Senior: 11–14 years
  • Super senior: 15 years and older [1]

The AVMA considers cats senior after 10 years of age and recommends veterinary checks at least twice a year for senior pets [2].
